| SUMMARY (detailed) |
| Wasted Life: The Musical is about that strange but persistent feeling that you somehow reached adulthood without learning anything particularly important or meaningful . This feeling can lead to bouts of hysterical panic, but our protagonist, Roy, it's a chance to re-examine his life and figure out exactly what, if anything, he's learned after twenty-three years. |
A NOTE FROM THE WRITER-DIRECTOR Wasted Life is a comedy. A broad comedy. Even approaching slapstick. People running, messing things up, throwing things around that land with an off-screen crash. You know - a comedy. And while all these elements are indeed present (some more than others) in Wasted Life, themes of regret, lonleliness, and (dare I say it) redemption all found their way into the script as well. The aforementioned shades of "regret and loneliness" may not be terribly surprising to those familiar with the Ana Hurka-Robles catalogue, but the redemptive aspect of Roy's story is something I tried very hard to make believable . Roy is not very bright, or deep, or driven. But he wants to be. And that's why I like him, and it's what makes me hope he succeeds. |
